First Tube Daddy, Scott Gerber said if there were objections from the community he would remove the mural. There were objections but instead of keeping his word… he said he wouldn’t remove the mural. I personally didn’t have a problem with the mural and thought it should stay just to prove the point that no one should push thier view on down another persons throat. But he said what he said. After months of conversation and debate… it’s gone.
So much for Sarasota’s “Fast-life” burp. Scott can now get on with the original intent of the Tube Dude. Making people smile. So…
Sarasota County is helping us embrace Tube Dudes too, awarding $100,000 in economic incentives. In return Scott say’s he will hire 44 people. Fourty-four people??? Let’s think about it. The county is saturated with them and they are expanding beyond our borders. All this has occurred with a handful of employees. But you know how we get the numbers? Scott takes his dudes to the sandblaster. There’s a job created. Then on to the powder coater. Another job. Scott’s 5 employees go to the Shell station for coffee and because there has to be someone to make the coffee, another job is created.
What the hell is a Tube Dude…
First of all they are sneaky little creatures. Dudes started popping up here and there and now they are like Predators (unlike his boats). Feeding on our need to view the world with optimism. Everything around us may be falling into shambles but I got my happy face on! And if you can’t muster a happy face, buy yourself a Tube Dude.
Next, they are versatile. They can be crafted to hold a generic message. It must be generic or the code guy may pay you a visit (see below). I actually don’t know if this is the code guy but I was out getting photos of dudes and this guy just happened by with his clipboard.
Dudes come in all shapes and sizes. You can put them in your lawn. You can place them outside your business. You can love them or hate them but the Tube Dude has tapped into something and people are going crazy over them.
